CD and DVD discs are still used by a lot of people nowadays, even though they were launched a while ago. That's because they are very cheap, they can store a fair amount of data and they can be played using many devices. But the problem with optical discs is that they can get easily scratched, making all the data stored on them impossible to access in these circumstances. A solution for avoiding this problem is to back up all the discs on the hard disk, as image files. Modern hard disks are quite large and can easily store numerous CDs and DVDs.

The problem is finding the right program for the job. Hektosoft Hektograph is the name of the software. Having a strange name, this program is not strange when it comes to using it, as it features a very simple interface which can be used by anyone. The software doesn't need installing, being ideal for running from USB memory sticks. When launched, the program will detect any inserted disc and will allow the user to save all the information stored on it as an ISO image file.

Image files can be burned back to a disc using the same application. It doesn't matter if the image was created with Hektosoft Hektograph or any other similar program. The burning process can be simulated prior to actually writing the disc, for making sure that the process will not have any errors and that the disc will be successfully created. The program is compatible with a wide range of disc image formats and allows customizing the burning speed, to suite any kind of disc.

Hektosoft Hektograph offers a special section for displaying detailed information about any burned disc, allowing the user to quickly spot any disc errors.

Pros

It can run as a portable application, as it doesn't need installing. Besides that, it supports any kind of CD and DVD, for creating images or for burning them. Furthermore, it can display detailed information regarding any disc, allowing the user to see if the disc was burned ok or not. What's more, the burning process can be simulated before actually writing data on the disc.

Cons

The program seems simpler than other similar apps and this may be disturbing for a demanding user. Hektosoft Hektograph is a simple and useful portable app for creating ISO images for any kind of disc and burning them.
